Hervey Bay Whale Festival Features Exciting Event Calendar

The annual Hervey Bay Whale Festival is a wonderful opportunity for those who are interested whale watching to observe whales. Hervey Bay welcomes around 7,000 humpback whales every year. During the August period, thousands of whales migrate through the area, making Hervey Bay the ‘Home of the Humpback’.

This year the Whale Festival will feature many different family friendly and educational events. There will be fireworks, rides, lectures, parades, workshops and live music.

The event starts with the Blessing of the Fleet, a traditional ritual that blesses the passing whales. Ocean of Fun is designed for kids and includes live music, sand sculpturing and live music. The Illumination Parade, a festival favourite of many, features music, children’s activities, and market stalls.

There is also the Whale Aid Concert, which will see local artists performing and various speakers speaking on conservation issues. There is also the Migaloo Starlight Swing, the final event of the festival and a night of swing music in the open air.
