5 Great Queensland Holiday Ideas

Australia is a wonderful place for a holiday and nowhere sums this up better than Queensland. Here you will find vibrant cities, stunning natural landscapes, year round sunshine and friendly locals, all packed into one state. Whatever you prefer when it comes to a holiday, you will be sure to find it in Queensland, but before you book your Whitsundays cruise or your Surfers Paradise Apartments, check out our guide to the best of the sunshine state. Then get ready for the most enjoyable holiday of your life.

Rainforest

About half of Queensland is situated north of the Tropic of Capricorn. The flora and fauna firmly reflect this location, with tropical rainforests one of the highlights of a trip to Far North Queensland. A great place to experience this thrilling natural environment is the Daintree National Park, about an hour north of Cairns. Here you can catch a glimpse of the famous saltwater crocodiles, see remarkable array of bird life or simply soak up the sultry atmosphere of the forest itself.

Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is not just one of Queensland’s, or even Australia’s, most famous tourist attractions; it is one of the world’s iconic destinations for tourists and lovers of the natural world. It is the largest reef system in the world and stretches more than two and a half thousand kilometres along the Queensland coast. The Great Barrier Reef is a wonderful place for snorkelling and diving. Diving courses for beginners ensure that everyone has the best possible opportunity to experience this spectacular marine world. Even if you don’t want to get wet, you can still join the fun. Glass bottomed boat tours reveal the wonders beneath the surface without you having to take the plunge.

Outback

Head away from the coast and you will discover what many people regard as the true Australia: the outback. Dusty towns populated by warm and friendly people are separated by the wide open spaces and huge skies that characterise the interior of this sun parched continent. Head into the outback and you will not only see spectacular landscapes but you will also get a true flavour of what makes Australia unique.

Cruise

The Queensland coast is dotted with dozens of beautiful tropical islands. Each one has its own unique character, but uniting almost all of them are glorious beaches lapped by clear warm waters. A fabulous way to experience these islands is on a yacht or motor cruiser. There are companies offering boat charters all along the coast, but without doubt the best place for such a holiday is the Whitsunday Islands. These 74 islands just off the central Queensland Coast are close enough together to make the perfect location for island hopping and the waters are easily navigable by visitors with even the most rudimentary yachting skills.

Theme parks

For a complete change of scene, why not head down to the Gold Coast and visit its many theme parks? This makes for a great holiday with children and from Dream World to Sea World and Movie World to Whitewater world, you’ll find plenty to keep the little one’s occupied. The Gold Coast is a great place for mum and dad too, with great beaches, Surfers Paradise accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets and plenty of bars and restaurants too.
