Sea World to Introduce New Jungle Display with Gorillas

Sea World on the Gold Coast is planning a new jungle-themed, African encounter attraction that will feature hippos, crocodiles, gorillas, and other animals. The new display would see Sea World as the first park in Queensland to feature a display with gorillas.

According to a Gold Coast Bulletin report, the exhibit is due to open in 2015 and the theme park will source gorillas from an international breeding program aimed at protecting the species from extinction. The gorilla has been rendered an endangered species as a result of habitat loss and hunting. There are just 50,000 gorillas, with 600 of these being mountain gorillas, left in the wild.

The new multi-million-dollar attraction represents another departure from the Sea World’s traditional approach of using aquarium displays and marine attractions. Earlier this year Sea World brought in an interactive dinosaur attraction.

A spokesman for the theme park has said that the new display would be an exciting addition to Sea World but added that they were unable to provide more details at present.
